Hexagonal Bow is inspired by how biomedical researchers work with animal parts to develop treatments for curing diseases. Elpida Hadzi-Vasileva selects and arranges these specimens into beautiful sculptural forms, adding gilding to ‘elevate’ their internal beauty.
Elpida Hadzi-Vasileva often works with scientists in University and Hospital settings where they are making highly specialised micro components to tackle medical issues. The artworks she produces balances the fragility of our bodies and aims to explore, celebrate and reveal this highly regarded medical research activity to wider public awareness.
In March 2020 as we entered 1st lockdown due to Covid-19 Elpida Hadzi-Vasileva decide to work only with materials available in her studio and using collected matter from her freezers.
